30. On creating learning experiences with Miikka J. Lehtonen, hosted by Tomi Kauppinen


Miikka J. Lehtonen (Rikkyo University College of Business) is an associate professor of strategy and management and one of the co-founders of the award-winning Nordic Rebels movement aimed at goosebumpifying teaching and learning. He received his Ph.D. from Aalto University School of Business in 2014. Prior to his current position, Miikka was working as an assistant professor at The University of Tokyo’s multidisciplinary unit i.school from 2014 to 2017, as a visiting assistant professor at Aalto University (School of Business and School of Arts, Design and Architecture) between 2016 and 2019, and more recently he was working at Dubai Institute of Design and Innovation as an assistant professor and head of strategic design management.

Miikka’s current research interests and teaching methods focus on visual methodologies and knowledge production, management and creativity in game companies, design practices and management in contemporary organizations, and national design competencies. In terms of teaching, Miikka focuses on challenge-based learning experiences where students work in multidisciplinary teams to combine theory with practice: by blending technologies and disciplines, Miikka aims at creating learning experiences that enable students to claim ownership of their own learning.
